Age and identity
Merki matches the check to the risk.
- Age is gated by content. Only a tier that can serve adult content is age gated, so only Roleplay requires 18 and over.
- Identity is verified for accountability. Cybersecurity keys can be pointed at live or remote servers, so that tier verifies who is responsible for them.
Doing one when the other is asked for collects more data than needed, or answers the wrong question. So the two are kept separate.
Age assurance: Roleplay
Roleplay can serve adult content, so it is limited to adults, 18 and over. The check is run by Sumsub, and it is an age check, not a full identity check. Merki does not ask for more than it needs to confirm you are an adult.
- Requirement: 18 and over, confirmed by Sumsub age assurance.
- Cost: Merki pays for the check.
- Retry: after a failed check, retry after 24 hours.
- Regular has no age gate.
Identity verification: Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity requires identity verification through Sumsub, so there is an accountable person behind the key. It also requires domain control: a DNS TXT record or a .merki challenge file.
- Requirement: identity verification by Sumsub, plus domain control.
- Cost: Merki pays for the check. Retries after 24 hours.
- There is no separate age gate on this tier. The domain proof and the verified identity are the real gates. See Cybersecurity verification.
What Merki receives
Merki receives the check result and the minimum reference needed to attach it to your account. Documents are handled by Sumsub. Merki does not receive copies of your documents.
Verification records are retained as required to keep these tiers lawful: account lifetime plus 5 years. See the retention matrix.
If a check fails
The tier is not enabled. You can retry after 24 hours, or stay on Regular.
Content limits at every tier
Age gating is a compliance control, not a licence. Content prohibitions apply at every tier and every age. See the Acceptable use policy.
